"Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead" is NOT your typical Charles Schultz "Peanuts." They are all grown up now. Set approximately ten years after the events in the fifty-year-running comic strip, Dog Sees God begins with Snoopy's death, and things for the introspective "CB" and the gang follows these typical teenagers with a direct reflection of todays society and all it's social givings; all seen through the eyes of modern teenagers.
Still trying to understand life's darker meanings, still plagued with his endless identity crisis, CB talks to his gang of friends to find answers to his many questions. Of course, this gives us the chance to laugh at seeing what became of these well-loved and recognizable characters. Doe "CB" get the answers he is looking for in the final scene of the play in a touching letter from Charles Schultz (CS)? Come and see Lucy, Linus, Schodar, Pig Pen, Marcy, and the reat of the gang in M&D Productions last "studio show" of 2009.
This touching heartfelt drama, Dog Sees God garnered the coveted Excellence Award for Best Overall Production, TheaterMania's Best Play of 2004, and the GLAAD media award for best Off-Off-Broadway Production.
**NOTE** This show has strong language and adult themes and is not reccommended for children under 12 years old.

You heard it here first. For those "in the know" or the occasional theatre buff who like to read scripts, knows that M&D will be producing as the final studio show of their 2009 season, "Dog Sees God" by Burt Royal.
This highly controversial play takes a stark hard look at today’s teens with all their giving’s and even a longer look at their misgivings. Centered around issues like peer pressure, drug abuse, casual sex, drinking, suicide and bullying, it’s any wonder how these loveable youths even made it to become teenagers. Linus (Van) is a pot smoker, Schroder is possibly gay, Pigpen (Matt) is an asshole, Snoopy is dead and Charlie Brown (CB) is still a confused insecure mess.
But the play with all it’s hard edges of exploration and teenage angst has a heartfelt story that must be told. Welcome to the real world. We all have been victims of these issues, and can you remember how you felt? How did you deal with it? Well we want to hear your story. Go to our blog and write something or send us email. We will put as many of your stories into the program as we can. We would also like to have “Talk Backs” at, at least two of, our performances.
So, here is the blog address and our email address. No names will be presented we respect your privacy if you want to remain anonymous on our blog. But let’s talk and see how M&D can help.
Thanks
Mark
Dog Sees God performance.
My husband and I went to see this performance on Saturday, November 14th, at the invitation of a friend. I have to say that I feel that the play is appalling!! As a teacher, I was totally disgusted with the language and the message that using drugs and alcohol is ok for high school aged kids. There were children there who were not 18 or 21! Some as young as 16, 17 years old were in attendance. Given that alcohol is sold at this theatre, along with the fact that the play went way beyond what a Rated R movie would be, tells me that this should be an adult play only.
This was a distasteful way of stressing to others that homosexuality should be tolerated. Swearing, driniking and smoking weed have nothing to do with the acceptance of gay people.
Charles Schultz was a wonderful inspiration to many. My guess is that he would have been outraged that his characters would be part of such a disgusting performance.
We, as parents and teachers make every effort to teach our children to make good choices and stay away from drugs and drinking. This performance portrayed drinking and drugs as acceptable and even comical. There is enough in our world today that negatively influences our children; this play just adds to that negative influence.
Please consider revising your show to adult only status....You are doing the teens of this valley no favors by either allowing them to view it, or be a part of the show.
Sincerely,
Parent and Educator
Here is my response.
Dear Parent and Educator,
I first want to thank you for your letter to M&D Productions. I am glad this play outraged you. These are very hard issues for teens to be dealing with. But this is exactly what they are facing today. I hear your concerns and couldn’t disagree more about presenting them to the public. The performance had a very strong warning in all publicity and marketing. You state that you had a problem with
1. The language
2. Drug usage
3. Drinking
4. Homosexuality
And you make the statement “There is enough in our world today that negatively influences our children; this play just adds to that negative influence.” That is where I couldn’t disagree more. I guess you had no problem with the bullying of another student until he killed himself. Or the parent who molested his son? Or the premarital sex issue? This play was meant to open a dialogue to discuss these very pertinent and current issues that most teens are going thorough today. I am so sorry that you couldn’t see past your disgust to see what the message was we were trying to have you hear. You also state, “We, as parents and teachers make every effort to teach our children to make good choices and stay away from drugs and drinking.” Sheltering our children about these things isn’t teaching them anything. M&D Productions provides a safe environment to explore these topics before our kids are approached and don’t know how to handle it.
M&D Productions will NEVER applaud such behavior but merely puts these topics out there for discussion on finding solutions for these problems. Are you willing to be part of our panel of people who would like to sit and discuss ways to help these teens deal with these things? We currently have numerous students and teachers who came to the show, loved it and are helping us to find solutions. These people include White Mountain Community Health Center, a Kennett High School Counselor, several high school students, and even a Gorham High School teacher is organizing a large group of students to take advantage of what this message has to offer.
I invite you to be part of this group and not sit back and ignore that it is happening.
This play was right on as far as the things that High School students today are dealing with. Kids today are dealing with adult issues and the adults in their lives need to be aware of what is going on. The truth is shocking but cannot be ignored. This is the DARE program for the real world.
Thank you for producing this play, it was wonderful, sad, funny, thought provoking and above all it was honest.
